Deep Cleaning vs. Standard Cleaning: What's the Difference?

A standard clean keeps a lived-in house in order. A deep clean is the detail pass when that is not enough. Here is what each visit includes, and how to choose.

Cleaner detailing baseboards and a door frame in an older Metro Detroit living room

The short version

Book a standard clean when the home is already in ordinary shape and you want the kitchen, bathrooms, floors, and reachable dust handled. Book a deep clean when a wipe of the counters will not touch what has built up: inside the oven and fridge, baseboards, door frames, and interior glass.

Everything on the standard list is included in a deep clean. The deep-clean list is the extra detail, not a different company and not a secret menu. Your quote names which one you are buying. If a task is not listed, it is not assumed.

Neither visit is mold remediation, a construction clean, or a hoist for exterior windows. Those are different jobs, and mold is not a service we offer.

What a standard clean includes

A standard clean is the regular reset for a home people are living in. It is the visit that makes a Tuesday night kitchen look looked-after. It is not a top-to-bottom restoration.

The usual scope is below. Your quote can add or remove rooms. We do not quietly expand the job on site, and we do not skip a room that is on the page you accepted.

  • Kitchen counters, sink, stovetop exterior, and appliance fronts
  • Bathroom toilets, tubs and showers, sinks, and mirrors
  • Dusting of reachable shelves, tables, and sills
  • Vacuuming carpets and rugs, and mopping hard floors
  • Emptying trash and replacing liners if you leave them
  • Making beds when the linens are already on the bed

What a deep clean adds

A deep clean is the right first step before a recurring plan, after a long stretch with no help, before guests, or when a Michigan winter has left salt film in the entry and dust on the bath fan. It is also the visit that suits older trim: plaster, oak, and doors that show every fingerprint.

We move light pieces, chairs, and small tables to clean under them, then put them back. We do not shift beds, dressers, or sofas alone. If a room needs that, say so before the quote.

  • Inside the oven and the microwave
  • Inside the fridge and freezer, with food moved and put back
  • Baseboards, door frames, light switches, and door fronts
  • Interior glass and mirrors we can reach without a ladder on the stairs
  • Cabinet fronts and backsplashes
  • Shower detail, including the track and the glass

What stays off both lists unless you ask

Laundry, exterior windows, and washing walls are not part of a standard visit, and they are not quietly included in a deep clean either. Blinds, and the inside of cabinets that are full of belongings, are quoted only if you ask. Carpet steam extraction is not this service.

A vacant move-out, with empty cabinets and closets, is a move-in and move-out clean. Fine drywall dust after the contractors leave is a post-construction clean. Using a deep-clean label for either of those jobs makes the quote muddy. Pick the visit that matches the house.

How to choose for a Metro Detroit house

Walk the kitchen and one bathroom. If you would be comfortable cooking for a guest after a careful wipe of the counters and a scrub of the sink, you are probably in standard territory, especially if someone has been cleaning on a regular rhythm. If you are looking at the oven door and deciding not to open it, start with a deep clean.

Older houses in Ferndale, Royal Oak, Dearborn, and the Grosse Pointe neighborhoods have more edges than a new open plan. Baseboards, frames, and radiator covers are why a deep clean exists. A maintained ranch in Livonia that is already on a biweekly schedule usually wants the standard list, every time, so the visit stays predictable.

Many homes do one deep clean and then switch to weekly, biweekly, or monthly standard visits. We quote those as separate lines so the tasks stay clear. We aim to send a consistent crew when the route allows. We will not pretend a specific person is guaranteed every week.

A useful way to decide is to look at time, not at the label you like better. A standard visit keeps up with ordinary life: crumbs, toothpaste, and the floor between the door and the kitchen. A deep visit spends its extra time on the edges people skip when they are tired, which is why it belongs before company, before a photographer, or before you start a recurring schedule. Doing the deep list every week is rarely what a household wants, and doing only the standard list in a house that has gone months without help leaves the oven and the baseboards exactly as they were.

If you are comparing the two because a landlord used both words, ask which tasks they mean. Some people say deep when they mean the oven. Some say standard when they mean the whole apartment, empty, before a new tenant. Match the words to the lists on this page, then book the service that fits. The quote will use our names for the visits so the crew is not translating an adjective on the day.

What to put in the quote request

Say which visit you think you need, then tell us the rooms, pets, and anything you want left alone. If you are unsure, describe the oven, the baseboards, and the last time anyone cleaned past the middle of the room. We would rather correct the label before the day of the clean than surprise you with a half-finished detail list.

You do not have to be home. Leave a key, a garage code, or a lockbox, and we will confirm the plan. Hours are Sunday through Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to noon. Saturday is closed. There is no rate card on this site. Request a free quote and the scope comes back in writing.

Questions

Is a deep clean just a longer standard clean?

It includes the standard tasks and a specific detail list: oven, fridge, baseboards, frames, cabinet fronts, and reachable interior glass. It is not an open-ended promise to clean until the house looks new.

Can I add the oven to a standard clean?

Ask. We can add a line to the quote. If you want the whole detail list, a deep clean is the clearer booking. The written quote is what we follow on the day.

How often should a deep clean be repeated?

Usually it is a one-time reset, then recurring standard visits maintain it. Some households repeat a deep clean seasonally. Either pattern can be written into the plan. We do not publish a required interval.

Will you move the couch?

We move light pieces and small tables. We do not move beds, dressers, or sofas alone. Tell us before the quote if a room depends on moving heavy furniture.
